One of my favourite places in the UK is Dorset and the Jurassic coast. I find the place as stress free as it can get with rolling countryside and beautiful coastlines. I have wanted to run at least some part of the Jurassic Coast for some time now. With a little weekend break managed to get my trail shoes on and hit the coastline for a 17 mile jaunt!
My run saw me start on the Sandbanks peninsula taking the short ride on the ferry which was first during my runs(4 mins) across to Studland beach. I could not have asked for a better day in terms of weather although a little windy on the beach I made my way around the peninsula and this is where I had the shock of my life 5 middle age men absolutely naked! Little did I know I had made my way onto the naturists stretch of the beach. The sand underfoot was hard going but I was making good time and enjoying (some of haha) the views.
I made my way onto Studland bay and took a short dip in the water which was actually quite refreshing to climb the ramp taking me off the beach and onto the South West coastal path which was a pretty big winding climb up towards Old Harrys Rocks which has breath taking views over Sandbanks and Bournemouth.
It was a short way up the to the top of that hill so I could see over Swanage which was my turn around point. I followed the same route back and loved the downhill sections and again getting wet to cool my feet off! This time around there were no naked men which was great. I managed to see that the ferry was just leaving for my side so could take a little breather as I waited on the beach.
To date this has to be one of my favourite routes. running along the coast is absolutely amazing I really need to get down there again at some point and run further along the coast towards Weymouth. I managed it in just under 3 hours and too take in the 1400ft of climbs and sandy beaches I’m pretty happy.
